This area below the gold bar I will dedicate to not remembering and dewelling but to healing.

The Little Treasures Pet Salon  was established in Coffeyville in 1997 by my mother-in law Sandy Benning.
Until I purchased the business in October 2006.

On the last day of June it was like any other day.  I got up and went to work. Groomed dogs til noon.  Then Larry and I went to Bartlesville to eat, and do some shopping.  Then we recieved a phone call from a friend about 1:30 pm or so.  He said I think you all should get back and help us there is a flood coming and if we can't sure up that levy then it is going to be bad.  We headed straight back.  By a little after 2 pm we were flipping sacks, bagging sand, tieing bags and hauling it tirelessly to the levy.   All in an effort to try and stop the floods.  At a little after 11:00 pm that night they came and got me and said go get your shop dogs out of the shop.  And that is what I did I went to the shop and got the dogs.  Picked everything up put it in bath tubs everything was put up a t least 3 feet off the ground, and in totes on counters.

At this time I would like to take the time to Thank everyone that worked so hard to stop the floods
I appreciate it and I appreciate all of you.  I can honestly say it was like little house on the praire
our whole community  came togather as a team for one specific purpose.  We may not have
accomplished our goal to stop the floods.  But we all worked togather to try.  And that means
a lot.  The flood waters that were coming down were way more than was ever anticipated.

On July 1 2007,  we woke to find the flood was bad really bad.  Halfway up in the little house on stilts.  We had seen it right up underneath but never inside.  A couple of days later.  we couldn't stand it any more.  the not knowing was killing us we live 5 minutes from the grooming shop.  and still had no way of knowing what the damage was.  So we started driving  65 miles later.  we arrived in coffeyville.   Thats when we found out it was halfway up inside.  I thought I can breath now.   I put every thing halfway up in totes or tubs.

While we were in Coffeyville I got a Call from the Human Society.   Michelle asked if I knew what they should do about logging in animals.  If I could help.  So I went to the temporary shelter location.  and worked for the first few days.  I had nothing else I could be doing.  Besides I have spent my whole life helping and working with animals; this is where I was needed now.

I am glad I did this and I would do it again.  Once the time came that the human society of america and several other organizations came in it was time for me to let them handle what had been started by  the Coffeyville fire department.                Many caring citizens had worked tirelessly to help.  Wash, walked and cared for animals.

It was now time to cocentrate on figuring out what I was going to do.

I wanted nothing but to see my customers and groom their dogs. but I had no place to work

We started looking for a location to groom in they either wanted 800.00 a month or it seemed like 140,000.00 to buy  We looked and looked.  We still didn't no about my equipment.

By now two weeks had past.

Finally  we got to go into our business.  It was unbelieveable. Everything was gone.  It had taken it all.
What I didn't count on was the water soaking everything  to the point and causing the holes to expand. to where                                it even pulled the cabinets off the walls to float and flipped  them.

I was devestated, And I will never forget it.

My husband went out an found me the 12X30 Lofted Barn that is now home to Little Treasures Today.
I would like to thank My Husband, Our Family and Friends, and my customers for not letting me give up,  and for all those people that  loaned me equipment to go back to doing what I love Grooming and making both
pets and there owners happy.

To begin with we had to set up for grooming in our living room.   And  I would do it again.

It took about  a month to get the phone lines moved and rerouted.
It took us 2 1/2 months to get the new building finished to work in it.

A Special Note
To the customers that have stayed and went thru this process I adore each and everyone of you Thank you so much for letting me no I was needed I consider each and everyone of you a Very important part of our Little Treasures Family your kindness and support during this time of my life was greatly  appreciated.

While I spent over 7 years at the location on 11th street.  I am happy at our new location.  Now when someone keeps me late and tells me there sorry I just look at them and smile and say thats ok I already started my husbands supper.  There are perks to working near  home.

This also allows me to take customers as early as 7am and earlier on occasionally.

As many of you know in 2008 our dog Blue (Bloodhound) disappeared. I still pray everyday that whereever he is he is safe and has not been hurt.  Now in 2009,  We have found a tumor on Red.  We have had the tumor removed, But are already seeing signs of another Tumor coming in.  While I dont know how long we will have him.  We have every intention of seeing to it that he enjoys whatever time he has left of his life.
Meet Anabelle (Larry got Annie for me after Blue was taken.  Annie was about 6 months old in this pic). She is our new Customer Relations Specialist
